The training camp took place at the LOUISE lighthouse in Lusatia. Here, the tandems learned the basics of climate adaptation, participation, and public relations. Together, they experienced the renaturation of the Kleine Elster river in two-person kayaks, using it as a prototype for low water levels and water retention. During the assessment of the starting situation in their own municipalities, the perspectives and opportunities for action from both the administration and civil society were made visible, and the tandems developed a deeper understanding of each other. To prepare for the workshops in the municipalities, initial ideas for temporary solutions were developed and prepared.

The workshops were prepared by the tandems in their municipalities and facilitated by Resilient Cities. On the first day, mixed groups from civil society and administration looked for areas particularly affected by climate change. They jointly developed small visions of how these areas could be transformed and voted on which idea should be implemented. On the second day, they developed a timeline and assigned tasks for the next 8 weeks.

Results

The Wandering Tree

A mobile installation made of a donated tree and two benches from the municipal yard was set up in Luckau, inviting people to linger. Over the months, it was intended to move to different locations within the city. However, the attention generated by the project led to a new alliance with a high school and a daycare center. The wandering tree found a permanent home at the daycare center and will be cared for by students from the high school. The wandering tree is now intended to serve as a blueprint for further tree plantings.

Water Action Day Luckenwalde 2024

In collaboration with the THW (Federal Agency for Technical Relief), a temporary water playground was created in Luckenwalde. Children were able to explore the playground and its surroundings using surface thermometers and collect further needs for action. In the future, the Water Action Day will take place annually.

Mobile Pergola

A mobile shaded area in Beeskow. Heavy enough not to disappear, yet light enough to move across the town square, inviting users to define relevant places. Further mobile pergolas are planned for the future to improve the quality of stay in the town center during hot weather.

Tons of Water

The goal of the climate tandem in Ludwigsfelde is to capture rainwater within the city and use it through watering sponsorships to make the city greener. The first barrel has been set up, and more are planned in cooperation with a municipal housing company.

The project “Klimafit in Brandenburg – Climate Tandem” was funded by the Ministry of Agriculture, Environment, and Climate Protection Brandenburg.
